Favorite Books

I just received a copy of In the Memory of the Map by Christopher Norment (University of Iowa Press – 2012).  Dr. Norment  was my graduate advisor at SUNY-Brockport.   He uses a map I created for him in the book.  I can’t wait to start reading.

Books by Bernard Cornwell – I am reading his books dealing with the history of England.  So far, my favorites are The Warlord Chronicles (about Arthur):

The Winter King(1995), Enemy of God (1996) and Excalibur (1997).  In this series, Arthur is a warlord ( dux bellorum ) during the 6th century.  The book also deals with the struggle to survive and build a society after the Roman legions left.

  1. First off I want to say fantastic blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your mind prior to writing. I’ve had difficulty clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out there. I do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are wasted just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips? Appreciate it!

I’m not sure I clear my mind. I just start writing, then let it sit and rewrite or edit. The words come or they don’t. If they don’t I move on to something else.
      Thanks for reading my blog.

I am enjoying this book, great visualizations. It brings back alot of memories about growing up in the 1950’s and 60’s.
